Gian Andrea Garancini
Holder of a European Baccalaureate from the European School of Varese, he has graduated from the University of Trieste with a BA in International and Diplomatic Sciences (with semesters abroad). A professional musician from his young age, he has worked as a Contracted Professor for Universities in Italy and abroad, as a Consultant on EU & International Affairs and on tourism development, as well as being an expert in coastal protection and marine underwater artificial reefs, cooperating closely with the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH) and in particular with the Marine Research Lab and the Computer Science Institute. He is also an event organizer and can speak fluently seven languages. His political career started in 1994 at the European Parliament, from 1999 to 2003 he coordinated the Italian Regions' EU Representation Offices and then served always in Brussels for the Presidency of the Italian Government (2003-2007). He moved to Heraklion, Greece, in 2008, where he became President of the European School, conducted a TV show on EU issues and continued to work as a free-lance journalist and consultant. In 2014 he was elected Councillor for the City of Heraklion, serving as Deputy-Mayor for EU affairs, Environment, Tourism and Communication until the end of the mandate in 2019. As such he was "Eurocities" Member of the General Assembly and elected Member of the General Assembly of Union of Greek Cities. He is currently project manager for the Development Agency of Heraklion (EU grants and programs). Recently nominated within the Cabinet of the Region of Crete with the Internationalisation portfolio, he is a Member of the Board of the Chamber of Greek-Chinese Economic Cooperation.
