Maria Ferreira
MSc Physical Geography and Environmental Studies has over 20-years’ experience in international coastal and marine planning and management. She is responsible for the International Programme of the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC) and is member of the Board of Directors and Management team of the EUCC. She is responsible for developing proposals with EU funding support and facilitating cooperation activities among key stakeholders and to represent the EUCC in international events and high-level meetings e.g. EU ICM & MSP Expert Groups, and in the DG MARE Atlantic Stakeholder Platform. Maria has been leading the activities performed under various EC contracts framework contracts (EC-DG-ENV) namely the Administrative, Organisational and Technical Support for the MSFD Technical Groups on Marine Litter (TG ML) and Underwater Noise (TG Noise) and currently coordinates support contracts to DG REFORM in the field of coastal protection management. In the past, managed and coordinated the communication and engagement activities of the OURCOAST initiative (EC-DG-ENV), MARLISCO (FP7 2013-2015), CLEANSEA (FP7 2013-2016), SUSTAIN (INTERREG IVC 2010-2012), SPICOSA and CONSCIENCE projects (FP6) among others. In her capacity, she has been involved in multiple European coastal and marine initiatives, and often participates, co-organizes, and develops stakeholder and thematic workshops and events.
